Men’s Ministry
The mission of the Sidney First United Methodist Men is to “Develop men into fully
devoted followers of Jesus Christ, in order to change the world.”

Men’s Book & Bible Study

At most times during the year, the United Methodist Men’s Book & Bible Study Group meets at 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday mornings, with the sessions designed for participants to get to their next appointment by 8:00 a.m. This study group is usually involved in reading a book or a specific book of the Bible.  The group ranges from 8 to 14 attendees, and there is prayer, sharing, study and discussion.

To find out more about this opportunity, feel free to contact Jim Liggett at jliggett@woh.rr.com. New members are enthusiastically welcomed, and all men are encouraged to become involved in a group study.

The most recent studies have been: Ephesians, Galatians and Romans.

Koininia

Koininia is a men’s fellowship and devotion opportunity held each week, currently meeting at the Alcove.  Every Wednesday at 6:30 am, this group meets to pray, study and fellowship. The Koininia group has been meeting as a small group for over 37 years, and new attendees are always welcome. Typically, there are 8 to 10 participants each week.

Chili & Euchre Night

Join in an evening of fun and fellowship with the Men's Chili & Euchre Night.  Held in the Church Fellowship Center, all men are invited to this informal time of fellowship.  Play cards, enjoy great chili, and meet and greet "old" and "new" friends.  Held on the 2nd Wednesday each month from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (September through May) and selected summer months.  Modifications and summer dates will be posted here or in the church bulletin. Contact Ken Hemsworth for more information at 937-492-8016.

United Methodist Men’s Choir

The Mission of the Sidney First Men’s Chorus is to “Seek and engage a group of men, through the media of music, to lead people to a personal relationship with Christ.”

For over 6 years, the Men’s Chorus of Sidney First United Methodist Church has shared the love of God to many through the raising of our voices in praise and worship to Him, usually singing our signature song Stand up Oh Men of God.

We share our music many places during the year beginning with our own congregation. Currently, we sing once per month at the 9:00 am service. We also sing at local Care Facilities for seniors, other local churches, Emmaus gatherings, at special venues such as Annual Conference at Lakeside and the OEMA winter meeting in Columbus as well as others.

Currently, we have over 30 members with a normal choir event featuring 20 to 25 men singing. We are always looking for new members, and you can sing with us even if you’ve never sung with a chorus before. Contact the Church Officeat for more information.

Shelby County Christian Prayer Breakfast

For the past six years, the United Methodist Men have planned and led the annual Shelby County Christian Community Prayer Breakfast, known as the “Celebration of Prayer”. The men have prepared this celebration as a gift to the community.

A Saturday morning in early spring is chosen as the time to come together as a Christian community to worship, hear scripture, fellowship and pray. Lay led, but with support of local clergy, the event has also included a featured guest speaker. (Click here to view/listen to Prayer Breakfast podcast.)

This community outreach offers a time of spiritual renewal with a focus on calling us, as Christians, to let God’s love flow through our lives.  For more information or to volunteer to serve on the planning team, contact the Church Office at 937-492-9136.
